THE Durban Port began this month in a noteworthy manner with the 18th Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers taking place last week. This was a significant occurrence for the maritime industry, specifically in Durban, as issues such as Maritime Safety and Security, the Blue Economy, Women’s Economic Empowerment as well as Tourism were at the center of discussion.
Equally important topics of discussions were global security, economic growth and sustainable development. The conversation was primarily based on how the Indian Ocean Region can and should make a contribution towards these important oceanic factors which are a part of the IORA’s priorities.
This meeting comes after the port city of Durban benefited enormously from the African Ports and Rail Evolution Conference which took place last month as we were celebrating Transport Month. In this issue, we are excited to let you in on this conference which set a significant stamp within the maritime industry as more than 350 maritime and rail executives from across Africa participated in a bid to expand and enhance our ports.Download here
